The Windows Communication Foundation is a part of the .NET framework. It provides an API to develop and connect SOA applications. SOA services can be consumed by clients and the services typically offers WSDL interfaces.

WCF offers support for communication over different communication formats such as HTTP, TCP, and Message Queues.

The communication format is based on XML or JSON.
